As a Frenchman, there are many times that I think the entirety of Europe was a mistake.

Colonialism is a large part of that.

Sadly I can think of no explorer who was too great as a person. But it's always fun to see which statues get vandalized!

Yeah, pretty much sums up my view on colonialism. We could say "at least he didn't enslave all of the populations" but, well, that's a pretty low bar, innit?

I agree on the colonialism, for sure. Obviously none of us or anyone currently living (unless someone was a long living mutant who partook, in which case they're about to get SLAPPED) are to blame or should feel guilty, but, man, colonialism and the social structures that followed are the pits.

I think we're getting a little better, with the changing of some names like Columbus Day, and if not, luckily, vandalism of statues and monuments to people like Cook and Columbus exist!
